It's Golfing weather!

Chris and I hit the links at Island Green in Republic on Monday. The weather was fabulous, the golfing, for me at least, not so good. It's hard to believe its been 20 years since I played- and it showed! Wow!!!! Chris- was playing well and decided to "coach" me, when I did listened to him I actually shot pretty well. I think the best part was before tackling the back 9 we had a pow-wow in the clubhouse. One wine later- I began to hit the ball better! I believe the sun was starting to play havoc with my senses as well-(or maybe it was the wine) because before I knew it, I was making "Snow Angels" on the fairway. I hope I didn't offend any golfers and I hope Island Green will let me come back and play again :)
Do something unexpected today!!!

A week of winning!

This week we are handing out the prizes... and not just any prizes. Tickets to try the new Zipline in Branson! Chris and I went to the Branson Zipline and Canopy Tours last Thursday and had an absolute ball! The drive is easy- about 7 miles north of Branson on highway 65. The entire tour was close to 3 hours with sing bridges and 7 ziplines. It was thrilling, and so much fun.
This week also kicks in the start of Bluegrass and Bar-B-Q at Silver Dollar City. We are getting "Saucy"! If you are the correct caller- you'll win instantly 2 tickets to Silver Dollar City then we'll sweeten the pot! For every item you can tell us you Bar-B-Q in 10 seconds we'll give you a bottle of SDC Bar-B-Q Sauce-.... Its a winning week- make sure you listen each day!

Just Right-Click

A salute to all Administrative Professionals!!!

What ever you do, DON'T FORGET this week is Administrative Professionals week. Or what I like to call it The Glue People Week. Glue People are those who hold everything together in the office! These great people keep things grounded, pick up the pieces, and smooth over ruffled feathers from the boss to clients to making sure there is enough paper in the copy/fax machine. Thank you, Thank you, Administrative Professionals for making our lives so much easier!!!

A great way to show your appreciation is to take your AP out to lunch/dinner/breakfast and also buy them flowers or honor them with a gift certificate. Another cool way to honor your favorite AP is to treat them to Girls Night Out at Parlor 88 on Republic Road at National THIS Wednesday! Special drink prices, appetizers and Prizes from 6-8 with Star 105.1! This is a great inexpensive way to be treated like royalty and have fun catching up on the office gossip!

We hope to see you Wednesday!!!!

Read this pledge. Agree to it by signing your name in the comments. Print out the Driving Pledge Membership Card. If you get pulled over, it won’t help you get out of a ticket, but it will give the officer a good laugh.

1. I pledge to follow all the driving laws of my state. When I am in your state, I’ll try to follow those, too.

2. I pledge not to drive like a complete moron, except in such situations that would conflict with Pledge 1.

3. I pledge to only be in the passing lane to pass a slower moving vehicle and that I will pass said slower vehicle at up to 33% over the speed limit so that I don’t slow down the people behind me. I also realize and accept that this violates Pledge 1.

4. I pledge to only break Pledge 1 when following Pledge 3 or Pledge 5.

5. I pledge to follow all these pledges, except for Pledge 4 when it conflicts with this one.

Tax Day is on the way!

April 15 will be here in a couple of weeks. Tax Day!!!! Are YOU ready? There are still places you can go to get free help to file your return. This year, the United Way, National Disability Institute, One Economy & Walmart Foundation are partnering to form a special tax preparation program for a lot of us.

One Economy Corporation and the National Disability Institute bring FREE tax preparation and filing services to consumers nationwide, including preparation and filing for the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal income tax credit. If you earn $49,000 or less you will benefit from the program. If you make less than $58,000 you can take advantage of the MyFreeTaxes.com national tour that is visiting across the U.S. with IRS-trained tax professionals. For more info on the program, visit http://www.myfreetaxes.com./

Hope this helps a little bit,

Spring Cleaning has begun!

I absolutely love this time of year. The longer days, the warmer weather and time for cleaning. Out with the old and in with the new.
My husband and I have been doing some cleaning in his office. One of things I will be donating is books... encyclopedias to be exact. A listener told me that I could donate old encyclopedias to the Christian County Library or to the Salvation Army. The "Army" is closer so I will probably take that route.
Remember if you are doing some house cleaning and have extra stuff- you can donate them to several charities around the Ozarks. Furniture and household goods are great to be given to the Kitchen for the "Fresh Start" program. Also the Victims Center is in need of particular items so please call around BEFORE you just throw things away.

Have a fantastic day,

It's Not Even A Contest

Daylight Savings Time

Back to work!!! Hopefully you bumped your clock up an hour yesterday, otherwise you will be late to work today! I am probably one of the few people who actually like daylight savings time. I love the longer days, and since Chris and I have to get up early and go to work when it's dark anyway, I don't miss the morning sunlight.
This is the time of year when most car crashes actually occur. People are sleepy, not paying attention or are not used to the dark conditions as they drive in. Please be careful as you drive this week, watch for the little ones as they go to school and in your neighborhoods. Have a great week...

Yippee, the weekend is here and I am really excited! I am headed to Vegas today and Chris will be flying solo next week. While in "Sin City" Mark and I will check out the "Blueman Show" and take a peek at the Grand Canyon. I am looking forward on walking out on that glass walkway over the western rim of the canyon. I will love it- Mark, not so much since he is a little scared of heights. I will download some pictures when I get back.
While I am gone, try to be nice to Chris, call him periodically and ask if he is sober.
Enjoy the weather, the weekend and the music! Catch ya on the flip side- March 15. Do not forget that on March 18-20 we'll have the CMN Radio-thon. A chance for us to help area kids and their parents thru the Children's Miracle Network.
Thanks for listening,

Gardening season is getting closer!

Is it time to plant yet? I absolutely can not wait until I can plant "things" in the garden. Last year I planted head lettuce (which rotted- I left it in the garden too long) green peppers, tomatoes, chives and cantalopes! This year I am going for strawberries, tomatoes, cantalopes and potatoes. My garden isn't big because I am not a weed puller. Its a 4 foot by 6 foot plot that just provides me and my family a taste of summer goodness.
Chris has a "deck" garden. He plants peppers, strawberry's and tomatoes in pots on his deck. Just remember it really doesn't matter where your "dirt" is, just grow what you can when you can. Enjoy!!
Just a quick note- if you are planting potatoes, the Old Farmers Almanac suggest you can begin planting potatoes on St. Patricks Day.

Moms

The following questions were answered by 2nd grade school children:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She’s the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string, I think

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn’t have her thinking cap on

Who’s the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because dad’s such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don’t do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I’d get rid of that.
2. I’d make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head

The STAR 105.1 Pinheads

Bowling was a hoot......

It's back to Monday and cold weather.....again! The weekend bowling tournament was hilarious!!! The "Star 105.1 Pinheads" along with the other Midwest Family Stations donated $1145 dollars to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Missouri. Our bowling team "ringer" Spencer Robarge who is 7, was fantastic as were listeners Marnie Farmer and Kathy Pinkley- (I don't know how old they are!) Thanks to Century Lanes in Nixa for a great time! Maybe next year you can be part of the fun too!!!
As you know its all about food with Chris and I. This week Chris and I will be heading to Ocean Zen with another listener lunch! If you haven't entered yet just text "Eat" to 68255. Good Luck!!

Bowling For Kids' Sake

It should be a very interesting Saturday as Summer and I slip on some slippery shoes and bowl. Now, don't get us wrong...we will be helping out Big Brothers Big Sisters, but we are bad. I mean, really bad. For some strange reason, Summer owns her own ball and shoes, but is a bad bowler. This doesn't make sense to me. If you own any kind of sporting equipment, you should be somewhat proficient in that sport.

I usually bowl better when I've had a couple of adult beverages, but I will probably not go down that road as I usually get louder and more competitive when I do that.

Our ringer is 7-year-old Spencer. This kid's bowling average is 169. Summer has to bowl 9 separate games to get a score like that. Our friend Marnie is also bowling on our team, and she says she is not good either. So it looks like Spencer will be carrying the load for us. I hope he doesn't make fun of how bad we are.

More to come AFTER the bowling is completed. I'm sure there will be a couple of stories that need sharing with you. Have a fabulous weekend.

Out of the blue this morning Chris and I gave away a four pack of Lawn and Garden tickets for this weekend- we'll continue our Random act's of Kindness for the rest of this week too!
Here is an idea- do one random kindness each day for the rest of the week. Something nice, it could be as little as smiling at someone who is having a bad day or maybe handing over some change for one who is short in the checkout line. Your kindness will spread to others an you never know you might get some "kindness" in return. Something I do know is, that the "kindness" you give makes you feel GREAT!

Enjoy your Day!!!

We had a great lunch with a BUNCH of listeners and their guests yesterday at Ocean Zen. What a cool way Chris and I get to meet our "friends" each week!
If you haven't yet signed up for FREE lunch from either Mr. Yen's or Ocean Zen its easy to register. Just text the word "EAT" to 68255. Just be aware of the fact that we have over 1300 text entry's and the computer only picks 5 names each week. It may take a while before your number is selected, but once it is, get ready for fun filled laughter lunch in which you can bring a friend. No money needed- Chris and I will take care of the bill and the tip so you can just eat and run if you want. It's just our way of saying "Thank You" for listening! We really do appreciate you!!!!

Interesting Question

Why, Why, Why?

Taking a couple of days off of work gives you time to catch up. You know what I mean? Things that you have put off, for who knows how long, now get done. For me, most of those things were around the house. And it's caused me to wonder why we do some of the things we do. For example:

Why do we keep running over a piece of string a dozen times with our vacuum cleaner, then reach down...pick it up...examine it...and then put it back down on the floor to give our vacuum one more chance to suck it up?

Why do we constantly go back to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat has materialized since we were there last?

And why is it that whenever you try to catch something that is falling off the table, you always manage to knock something else over?

Back to my normal life tomorrow.

I actually live outside the city limits and a grocery story is miles away- I just like to be prepared. What about you? Do you get staples before a big storm? Never Regret Anything That Makes You Smile

In The News...

Congratulations to Miss Virgina who won the 2010 Miss American competition over the weekend. Miss Missouri didn't fare too well. Although her talent portion was impressive -- she built a meth lab in under 60 seconds.

And I finally had a chance to watch the Jay Leno/Oprah interview from last Thursday.... It was pretty boring, except of course for the part where Oprah announced that when she retires in 2011 she's giving her show to Conan O'Brien and then taking it back.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Another round of winter.....ugh! We are almost at the halfway point. On Tuesday hopefully the groundhog will not see his shadow. If he does I might feel the need to get a gun. Prepare yourself for colder temps this week and frozen precip. We could see everything but hail. Now would be a good time to top off all your fluids in your car like antifreeze, windshield wiper, and maybe even put some heet into your gas tank.

If the weather gets too bad we'll let you know about school closings and business closings. Thanks for listening to Star 1051.Fm

Help for Haiti

WOW!! The pictures, stories and video I have seen on the Haiti earthquake literally hurts my heart. I have been to Haiti with my parents back in 1980 while on a cruise. The island is beautiful but very poor. Friendly islanders raising families, trying to provide for little ones, with barely enough to eat and drink. While on our trip we met several natives. One family in particular stands out in my mind. A young mother and her 2 children. We talked with them as they tried to entice tourists to buy trinkets and seashells- no doubt trying to make enough money for their dinner that evening. Though I know the children have grown to adults, I still wonder and think about that family. Are they alive? Have they eaten? Do they have water? Are they in pain? Haiti may be a broken island but the spirit of the people to survive is anything but broken.
I have a question for you- what have you done to help? Reflect on how lucky you are to live in a home or apartment, have electricity, clean water, sheets for your bed and clothes to wear not to mention food. The people of Haiti and Port-au-Prince don’t even have the basics. They desperately need our help. Join me in helping the families of Haiti- donate in the name of your family- just text the word “Haiti” to 90999. Your cell phone will be billed and you will know that your donation can make a difference.
Thank you for listening and thank you for donating,
